Law Degree

Study a full-time LLB (Hons) degree - Year 1 is based at the Hartlepool Sixth Form College Campus with lectures delivered in two full days per week to provide employment opportunities for students to work in practice or other work related environment transferring to University of Sunderland main campus for second and third year. Choose to study at our Hartlepool Brinkburn Campus and you will be following the same programme as students at the Sunderland City Campus. This course provides you with an academic foundation for entry into the legal profession and a more rigorous discipline should you want to use your qualification in different fields. You will also learn and develop skills in IT, presentation and group-working skills.

Entry Requirements: 260 points.

Including 200 points from 6-unit or 12-unit awards. Other acceptable qualifications include 3 distinctions and 4 merits at National Diploma, or 28 points in the International Baccalaureate. You also need GCSE pass at grade C or above, in Mathematics and English or an equivalent qualification.

Course Content

The LLB Law course is built around the seven foundation subjects required for a QLD (Qualifying Law Degree) and includes a wide range of electives.

First year at Hartlepool Brinkburn Campus – Core modules:

  • Contract 1 & 2
  • Constitutional and Administrative law
  • Legal Institutions and Methods
  • Criminal law

Assessment (All Courses)

All students are assessed through a combination of written examinations, assignments, individual/group projects, and presentations.

Career Opportunities

The majority of graduates from our LLB course enter careers in the legal profession with others entering areas such as accountancy, insurance, industry and commerce, the police, the probations service, education and central and local government. The following are some examples of careers which our recent graduates have gone on to do include Legal Advisor; Legal Assistant; Solicitor; and Paralegal Trainee and Teaching.
