Course Overview
The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma is designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors within the Travel and Tourism industry. It is a vocational qualification designed to prepare students for progression to Higher Education or for direct entry into employment. In your first year you will achieve an AS equivalent, in your second year this will contribute to the final Subsidiary Diploma, the equivalent to an A2. The course covers a variety of industry related subject areas, including, customer service, marketing and UK and long haul travel destinations.
The course comprises six units and is a varied programme of study covering a two year period and is equivalent to one full A level. The grading system for the course ranges from Pass, Merit to Distinction.
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed through assignments based on work-related situations or activities with opportunities for teamwork and in-depth study.
What do I need for the course?
No prior knowledge is needed to study BTEC Travel and Tourism, although you may have studied it at GCSE level. What you do need is an interest in the world of travel, an organised approach and an ability to work hard and meet deadlines. A sense of fun and a willingness to look at things from a different angle is always desirable too!
Progression
Students have gone on to University to study Tourism Management or have been successful in gaining employment in related ‘people based’ areas’:- tourism, marketing, customer service and teaching.
